Italian Painter, active ca.1350 Barna da Siena, also known as Barna di Siena, was a Sienese painter active from about 1330 to 1350, and was the painter in Siena during this period. He learned his trade from Simone Martini. Barna is believed to have paint the frescoes depicting the life of Jesus in the Collegiata di San Gimignano and is generally credited with Christ Bearing the Cross, with a Dominican Friar in the Frick Collection in New York City. He was killed in a fall from the scaffolding. a well known Hudson River School painter, American , 1882-1937 was an American painter and illustrator, primarily known for his rural life scenes and landscapes, whose works were featured in Life and other magazines of the early 20th Century, and who produced a wide range of illustrations for books as well as oil paintings. Like his father, Frank Anderson, Victor was a well-known painter of the Hudson River School. Victor drew and painted from an early age, eventually entering the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. His favorite subjects were scenes of homespun rural life and landscapes of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, and were popular nationally. For many years, he lived and had his studio at 195 Battle Avenue, White Plains, New York, where he died in 1937. He exhibited in the National Academy. His daughter, Joan Howe (1915-2005), was a well-known watercolor artist .
James clarke hook,r.a
1819-1907 English painter. He studied with the portrait painter John Jackson and entered the Royal Academy Schools, London, in 1836, winning medals for drawing and historical painting. His Academy d?but was in 1839 with The Hard Task (untraced). In 1844 Hook was awarded a gold medal in the Houses of Parliament competition. In 1846 he won a Royal Academy travelling scholarship, enabling him to spend two years in Italy, where he was strongly influenced by the colouring of the Venetian painters. On his return his work included a series of subjects from Venetian history, including The Rescue of the Brides of Venice
